Establishing Respect and Control for English and Western Riders
Clinton Anderson
Real horses. Real riders. Real problems. Real solutions.
This, Clinton Anderson’s first book, consists of a series of ten groundwork and ten riding exercises from his Downunder Horsemanship training program. Clinton’s training techniques can achieve amazing results with almost any horse. Now his methods are available for the first time in a reader-friendly, highly illustrated book, and you too can learn the program that teaches ‘everyday people’ – regardless of riding style, age, or ability – how to better communicate with their mounts.
Starting with a basic understanding of horse psychology, Clinton presents a realistic, step-by-step training approach that you can apply to your own horse. Through a series of photographs taken at the time, you see each new exercise as it is presented to two riders and their horses. Each exercise includes a troubleshooting session from both the rider’s and Clinton’s perspective.
Clinton, who apprenticed with some of Australia’s best horsemen, quickly gained a reputation, first in Australia, and later in the US as a talented teacher. This is the perfect book for all who desire to be safe, gain control and respect of the horse, and enjoy horseback riding to the fullest.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Clinton Anderson was born and raised in Australia, where at the age of six his family recognised a natural ability with horses and cultivated his interest. When he was fifteen, he started apprenticeships with nationally acclaimed horse trainers, Gordon McKinlay and, later, Ian Francis. During this time he started and trained over 600 horses. Three years later, he used this knowledge and expertise to start his own horse training facility.
Clinton travelled to the United States in 1996 and apprenticed with Al Dunning. In 2001, he became the first horse trainer to launch a ‘made-for-TV’ weekly training programme. The use of untrained horses and a variety of topics covering common problems faced by horse owners has made this show the network’s most popular equine programme.

Full-Color Care and Conditioning Resource for Horses A ridden horse is an athletic horse, and just as a human athlete needs to gauge his diet, condition his cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and take meticulous care of his muscles, bones, and ligaments, so too must the rider maintain these systems in their horse.
